Machu Picchu Permits

Machu Picchu Permits

Machu Picchu Permits: For visiting Machu Picchu, the government has strictly limited the number of people permitted on the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu. The permits for the Inca Trail are issued to about 200 trekkers per day plus 300 porters and for Machu Picchu 2,000 a day. We recommend that you make your booking as early as possible

As of July 15th 2011, the Peruvian government has started enforcing new rules for those wanting to climb Huaynapicchu (the big sugar loaf mountain behind Machu Picchu).  Many of your guidebooks and online resources probably won’t contain these latest updates, so read up on the newest regulations here before you embark on your Peru adventure.

These permits can only be purchased through the government website www.machupicchu.gob.pe or in the Cusco office of the Direction Regional (which can be done by notifying your tour provider ahead of time). Machu Picchu and the optional sites are open all year round, even on Sundays and Holidays.

Buy A tickets

The tickets are sold by season and the season goes from January 1st to December 31st. The initial date to purchase for next season depends on the Peruvian Government. Usually, the date to start purchasing is around December 20th. If you want, you can subscribe to be informed once sales for next season will start.

The availability is for Machu Picchu itself and not for our Agency. Any Agency you choose will have the same availability. Therefore, it is useless to contact another Agency if the date you want is not available.
A large number of available spaces does not mean at all that “there is still time”. Some agencies group their requests together and it is not unusual to see 30 spaces go away in only 5 minutes.

It is possible that some spaces are released. The counter is then increased. Pre-reservation and payment system implemented by the Government make that, even if it not usual, pre-reserved and non-paid spaces are available again.

The availability is controlled by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. Only they are able to manage and authorize the access to Machu Picchu and the optional sites.
