The city has a long and interesting history dating back to 1200AD and linked to the first Inca ruler Manco Capac. Therefore the city saw its expansion in the 15th century under the rule of the greatest Inca Pachacutec, who led a drive that spread the boundaries of the Inca Empire as far south as Chile and Argentina, and north to include Ecuador and Columbia.

With its archeological and architectonic beauty, its natural surroundings and its magical landscape between Andean mountains and rain forests; its tropical climate does make a beautiful place where you will find Mother Nature and the best place to relax and absorb natural energy.

Discovery of Machu Picchu

Because Machu Picchu was discovered by American Mr. Hiram Bingham at 1911, in the ancient times was considered religious center and astronomical observatory center, also it was a penetration point towards the Amazonian jungle, visited in that time only by the highest class of the Inca Empire; we still can see nowadays the trail that connects Cusco with Machu Picchu running through magnificent mountain scenery.

Machu Picchu Weather

The climate in Machu Picchu has also some characteristics that are found all over the region; thus, only two well-defined seasons are distinguished: the rainy season between September to April, and the dry season from May to August. Nevertheless, Machu Picchu is found by the beginning of the Amazonian Jungle, so the chance of having rains or showers is latent by any time of the year.

In the hottest days, it is possible to get even until 26° Celsius (78.8° Fahrenheit), while that in the coldest early mornings in June and July the temperature may drop to -2° C. (28.4° F); the average annual temperature is 16 degrees Celsius. Annually, there is an average of rains from 1,571 mm (61 in) to 2,381 millimeters (93 in). After breakfast in the hotel, we leave at 8.30am. Our first stop is the village of Maras where we can see the colonial buildings; then we continue toward the salt mines of MARAS. The salt mines display a bizarre spectacle of beauty. Located on a wide-open hill above the Urubamba Valley, a natural salt water stream runs underground. In pre-Incan times, they have been evaporating the salty water from this stream in order to obtain the salt that gets left behind.

After visiting the salt mines near Maras, we continue on a short distance to the Moray Inca ruins. The Ruins are composed of three coliseums, which are thought to have been used by the Incas as a sort of open air crop laboratory.

The coliseums consist of several enormous terraced circular depressions, the largest of which is about 30m/98ft deep. Terraces are arranged in concentric circles and are reminiscent of an ancient Greek theatre. In the afternoon, we will return you back to your hotel in Cusco.

It’s very important Inca Archaeological site that has numerous impressive terraces that are still being cultivated today. Even more impressive is the irrigation system that is still serving agricultural areas nearby. It consists of carved stone channels, precisely calculated and sometimes with almost vertical falls that all together constitute a hydraulic engineering masterpiece.

The constructions of Pikillacta are composed of more than 700 structures: 200 Kanchas (departments), 504 qolqas (storages) and different buildings that should have sheltered a population of about ten thousand people. The walls were made with mud and stones, wide at the bottom but thin at the upper part. At the beginning of the nineties, these walls were covered with mud of 9cm, that then were painted with plaster. Floors were also made with a kind of thick plaster showing the appearance of a white city.

It’s the most important attraction for the visitors is its church: San Pedro de Andahuaylillas considered as the “Sistine Chapel” of America due to the quality of its art pieces. Built at the beginning of VII century, the interior of the temple is decorated with murals performed by Luis Riaño ( XVII century) representing the path to glory and the path to hell.

It is an Inca archaeological site; Machu Picchu is an outstanding reminder of the power and ingenuity of the Inca civilization. Built in the 15th century, the ancient citadel was abandoned only 100 years later and many mysteries remain. Machu Picchu was Listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1983 and announced as one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2007; it is the most important tourist destination in the world

At 100 kilometers from the city of Cusco at an altitude of 2,400masl; is located overlooking the Urubamba River, the site of Machu Picchu sits above the Sacred Valley – located in the Cusco region of Peru.[/

To get to Machu Picchu you can walk along the Inca Trail for 2 days or 4 days; you also can take the train from the train station of Ollantaytambo (1:45 hours) or from Poroy (3 hours); or you can take bus for 6 -7 hours

The good news is Machu Picchu can be visited year-round. The most popular time, and therefore the most crowded, is in June, July and august. Low cloud cover during the dry season from April to October also means cold nights on hiking trails – so make sure to bring some thermals for a good night’s sleep. The wet season takes place from November to March. This is when the temperature rises and the region receives heavy rainfall.
